Psychological and Neuropsychological Evaluations

Comprehensive ADHD Evaluation

Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a common neurodevelopmental disorder that affects focus, attention, impulsivity, and organization. It can impact daily life at school, work, and in relationships. If you’ve been struggling with attention or executive functioning, a comprehensive ADHD evaluation can help determine whether these challenges are part of an underlying diagnosis, and guide you toward effective treatment and support.

The ADHD evaluation may include, but is not limited to:

  • Clinical interview(s) with the client and/or parent/guardian (if applicable)
  • Behavioral rating scales and questionnaires
  • Cognitive or academic testing
  • Review of medical, educational, and psychological records
  • Observation of behavior

The evaluation includes a feedback session to review the results of testing and answer questions. You will also be provided with a copy of the report so that it can be provided to medical providers, work, or school as needed. The final report will include the test findings, diagnostic consideration, recommendations, and possible accommodations that might be helpful for you, if applicable.

Neuropsychological Assessment

Neuropsychology assessment is a comprehensive evaluation that involves gathering a detailed history along with extensive testing to help determine if a person is having difficulties with cognition (thinking). Testing can also help determine the underlying cause for cognitive difficulties. Neuropsychology evaluations are performed by a neuropsychologist, who is a clinical psychologist with specialized training in brain-behavior relationships, neuroanatomy, and brain function. A neuropsychologist will use this knowledge to assess, diagnose, and  provide recommendations/strategies based on testing results.

Specialty Areas:

Dementia

Head injuries/concussions

ADHD

Learning disabilities

Parkinson's disease

Multiple sclerosis

What to Expect

A neuropsychological evaluation can range from 2-6 hours depending on the presenting concern. An evaluation typically includes an interview with the client (and family member, if available) followed by pencil-and-paper/computerized testing which evaluates performance in a variety of cognitive areas such as memory, attention, speed of thinking, organizational skills, language, visuospatial skills, IQ, emotional/psychological functioning, etc. The results of testing are combined with information gathered during clinical interview and review of medical records to provide a thorough report of findings. Reports are typically available 2-3 weeks after completing testing.

The neuropsychology evaluation includes an hour-long feedback session to review results and answer questions. Additionally, reports will include a detailed list of recommendations and cognitive strategies which may be helpful based on results. During the feedback session, Dr. Mead will take the time to go over the results and recommendations in detail. The client is also provided with a copy of the report so that it can be provided to other medical providers, work, or school as needed.
